Getting Started Polymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Step 2:
Since working with RED can be challenging not to transfer the color onto the many white areas, it is recommended to roll out most of the white pieces BEFORE touching any red segments.
Step 3:
Roll out a 1.25” of red clay and shape it into a long teardrop and place on the work surface. Roll out two legs using .75” each of red clay and attach
Step 4:
Add flattened white disks made from small amounts of white clay to each pant leg. Next shape two boots using two balls of .75” black clay – press these into the white disks.
Step 5:
Flatten a length of black for his belt, add o-ring or make a buckle with clay and place around chest area or lower. At this time place a long length of white clay that has been rolled into a snake as shown
Step 6:
Next add arms/sleeves which are made by shaping two .75” balls of red clay – attach smaller white disks (insert a hole into them) and insert mittens which were made using small amounts of green.
Step 7:
For Head/Face: Insert half a toothpick into the neck area for added stability. Roll a 1” ball of Super Sculpey into a circle, insert over toothpick. Blush cheeks with pink chalk (optional). Add tiny ball of pink for his mouth. Add beard (make this as long or short as desired). Add tiny balls of Super Sculpey to make two ears, attach these. Add mustache, nose and eyebrows.
Step 8:
Stocking Cap: Using a 1” ball of red, make a long teardrop shape (see photo). Place it on the head and shape. Add white band of flattened clay as a band, also add pompom to the end. Cut out two leave shapes using green and place on the white band. Next add a tiny ball of red clay and poke a hole in it.
Step 9:
For Christmas Ball: Roll a .5” of blue into a ball, add a small amount of gray (mix black and white) and insert a short eye pin to resemble a hook for hanging.
Step 10:
BAKE AS DIRECTED: When cooled draw on eyes and add white dots of paint for cheek highlights.
